I am a college freshman pursuing a degree in electrical engineering for two reasons: so that I may help to produce electricity along the Pacific coast of America, including Alaska, using geothermal energy; and so I can help to construct sustainable communities in developing countries. I am in the second phase of a three phase project. The first phase was “life experience and general comprehension,” and consisted of traveling the entire lower 48 for eight years to determine the worst problems, and the most viable solutions to those problems. The second phase is “preparation for rectification,” and will require another ten to fifteen years of constant study. The third phase will be “solution implementation,” and will take the rest of my life. It will include: alternative energy programs, third world scholarships, mass media, infrastructure improvements, and independent think tanks. I am excited to have an ongoing dialogue with my fellow students in the coming years, as well as with the Alaskan scientific community.

I grew up in Homer, Alaska and graduated from Homer
Flex High School in 2007. In February 2007, I attended the 51st United
Nations Commission on the Status of Women as the Alaska Youth Delegate.
This summer, I was awarded Girl Scouting’s highest award, the Gold Award,
for founding a support group, the Ribbons of Life, for children whose family
members have cancer. I am a UA Scholar and hope to study medicine and become
a pediatrician for Doctors Without Borders. I look forward to leading
Kachemak Bay Campus into a year of fun, making friends, and improving the
learning experiences at our college. |

Marth Roderick
Hello! My name is Martha Roderick and I am a student here at Kachemak Bay Campus. I am a sophomore working on two degrees, a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and an Associated Arts Degree. I have lived in Alaska my entire life and was raised in Anchor Point. I love to garden, go hiking, hang out with friends and my passion is to help people whether it be homework or stuff around the house, I'm there. I have been a part of the Student Association before as Treasurer and I am back again to fulfill my duties as Treasurer.

I'm an avid musician, having begun piano lessons at age seven, and I like to read good literature. My sister and I enjoy performing (she's a crazy good singer), and when I'm not working at my family's grocery store or helping to build our new house, I like to sit and contemplate things, namely what I'm going to eat next.
